Kobe Palencia shows way as Greenies rip Light Bombers to stretch streak to three

    May 9, 2018

REIGNING NCAA titlist La Salle held Jose Rizal University to just eight points in the second quarter and streaked to its third straight win, 90-52, to grab the solo lead in the PCABL 11th Freego Cup on Tuesday at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.

Kobe Palencia led La Salle’s well-balanced attack with 15 points on top of four rebounds, three steals and two assists as the Greenies improved their record to 3-1.

JRU slipped into a tie for second to fifth places with National University, Malayan, and Adamson – all with similar 3-2 records in the preseason tournament.

The NU Bullpups, meantime, redeemed themselves from a stinging defeat to the Red Robins the last time by downing the Baby Falcons, 82-77, thanks to the 25-point show of veteran Terrence Fortea.

Also delivering for the Bullpups were the 6-foot-7 Carl Tamayo and Gerry Abadiano, who chipped in 14 points apiece.

Joel Sabanda led the Baby Falcons with 24 points.

University of Perpetual Help snapped a three-game slide with a surprising 90-81win over the Red Robins in the tournament backed by Choi Garden, CW Home Depot, Powerhouse and Hapee Toothpaste.

The win improved Perpertual’s record to 2-3 – the same win-loss mark of Far Eastern University which beat University of the East, 73-60.
