THE Cinderella run of Kevin Quiambao and Goyang Sono continues in the Korean Basketball League.
What started as a surprise playoff push has now turned into a full-blown finals appearance after Goyang stunned and dethroned Carl Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers, 90-80, in the semifinals on Monday.
The Skygunners, in their first-ever playoff run, punched their ticket to the championship round after completing a 3-0 sweep over LG Sakers, extending what has been a fearless and relentless postseason surge.
At the center of it all was the league’s Rookie of the Year Quiambao, who once again delivered in a statement performance, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists to steady Goyang in a high-stake closeout game.
Changwon attempted to set the tone early, but Goyang ended the quarter strong, outscoring Changwon 17-10 to carve out a 26-19 cushion.
From there, the Skygunners never looked back, eventually sealing the franchise’s first trip to the finals.
Tamayo, on the other hand, concluded his remarkable season with nine markers, three rebounds, and two assists for Changwon.
GOYANG’S MAGIC RUN
Goyang’s improbable rise was already set in motion late in the regular season, when a 10-game winning streak catapulted them past Busan KCC Egis and Suwon KT to snatch the fifth seed and sneak into contention.
From there, they didn’t just survive - they dominated.
A quarterfinal sweep of Seoul SK Knights followed, before taking down Changwon LG Sakers to remain unbeaten in the playoffs and officially turn their debut postseason into a Cinderella story still unfolding.
Now, Goyang awaits the winner between Busan KCC Egis and Anyang KGC, as the Skygunners stand one step away from completing the fairytale with a title run still in sight.
