KOBE Paras will not be able to take part of the 2015 Fiba 3x3 World Tour Manila Masters set August 1-2 at the Robinsons’ Place in Ermita, Manila due to a prior commitment.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Sonny Barrios said Paras, as per his father and PBA legend Benjie Paras, can’t make the trip to Manila as he will attend an Adidas camp in the United States.
“Unfortunately, according to Kobe’s dad, ‘yung coach ni Kobe sa States would rather have him attend the Adidas training camp. Wala tayong magagawa doon,” said Barrios.
The SBP was looking forward to the younger Paras playing in the Manila Masters, more so since no less than Fiba had requested that the two-time slam dunk champion of the Fiba 3x3 Under-18 World Championship be part of the event.
“It’s unfortunate. We were looking forward to Kobe playing here,” Barrios added.
Paras is using the offseason in the United States to hone his skills before he enters college where he has committed to join the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins, a US NCAA Division I school.
Even without Paras, the Philippines will be fielding three teams in the competition led by defending champion Manila West, which is composed of Terrence Romeo, Rey Guevarra, Nino Canaleta, and Aldrech Ramos.
Also seeing action is the Manila North side of Calvin Abueva, Karl Dehesa, Vic Manuel, and Troy Rosario, and the Manila South of Lucky Ecarma, Jair Igna, Carlo Ortega, and Joshua Sinclair.
