CREIGHTON built a huge lead early, enough to survive a scoreless final three and a half minutes, to register a 74-64 victory over Butler on Wednesday in Omaha, Nebraska (Thursday, Manila time).
The No. 8 Bluejays made it three straight wins after absorbing a loss to NCAA titleholder Villanova.
Maurice Watson had 21 points on 9 of 14 shooting, while three other starters scored in double figures for Creighton.
Khyri Thomas scored 14, making the layup with 3:21 left that proved to be the last basket for Creghton.
The Bluejays improved their Big East record to 4-1, moving to the top with Villanova.
Creighton fielded only nine players, with rookie Kobe Paras not seeing action afetr a brief appearance against Providence.
Cole Huff and Justin Patton came up with 10 points each, while Marcus Foster had nine points on 3 of 8 shooting for the Bluejays.
Avery Woodson was the lone double-digit scorer for Butler, delivering 14 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs, who defeated Villanova last week, saw their win streak end at three and now hold a 3-2 card.
