THE Philippine basketball team got off to a rousing start in the Seaba Under-16 men’s basketball championship with an 82-57 win over host Indonesia on Monday.
Michael Louise Dela Cruz and Kobe Paras led the charge for the Filipinos, who drew a bye in the opener of the tournament that will decide the region's representative in the Fiba-Asia Under-16 championships.
Dela Cruz had 17 points while Paras, son of PBA legend Benjie, added 13 markers. Both are playing for La Salle Greenhills in the NCAA.
The Filipino cagers are now on top of the standings along with Thailand (1-0), which defeated Malaysia, 66-58, in the opener on Sunday.
Indonesia and Malaysia have a 1-1 mark while Singapore is still winless at 0-2.
