THE Creighton Bluejays quickly bounced back from their first loss of the season, venting their ire on St. John’s University, 85-72, on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
Justin Patton led all scorers, delivering a season-high 25 points on 11 of 14 shooting for the Bluejays, who got back on the winning track after bowing to NCAA champion Villanova.
Patton was also just a rebound short of a double-double.
Creighton scored seven straight points before St. John's could respond, and the Bluejays led by 24 points early in the second half.
Maurice Watson went 7 for 10 and wound up with 19 points, while Marcus Foster scored 15 on 6 of 16 shooting for Creighton. The Bluejays fielded 10 players, but Kobe Paras of the Philippines did not play for the fifth straight game, as the team notched its 14th win.
St. John’s saw its win streak end at three.
Marcus Lovett scored 23 points for the Red Storm, who absorbed their eighth loss in 16 outings.
Shamorie Ponds came up with 17 points, while Tariq Owens came off the bench to score 12 for St. John’s.
