LETRAN defeated Mapua, 81-77, on Friday even in the absence of star players Mark Cruz and Rey Nambatac in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

McJour Luib had 18 points while Kevin Racal added 16 for the Knights, who overcame an eight-point deficit entering the final quarter to register their win in three games.

Cruz missed the game after injuring his knee in the PBA D-League, while Nambatac injured his left hand in practice.

“Entering the game, we know that Mark and Rey won’t play. I think it was a chance for the other players to step up,” said Letran coach Caloy Garcia.

Josan Nimes had 24 points for the Cardinals, who remained winless in three games.
