A total of 10 boys from all over the country, including the brothers of University of Santo Tomas stalwarts Jeric Fortuna and Kevin Ferrer, made it to the Jr. NBA Philippines 2013 team at the conclusion of its sixth consecutive staging over the weekend.
Seven boys from Manila and one each from Pampanga, Davao, and General Santos City comprised this year’s batch which will get the opportunity to play against its counterpart Jr. NBA teams overseas.
The list include Marvin Sario, Vince Jansel Ferrer, Samuel Abujihleh, Gian Robert Mamuyac, Ricci Paolo Rivero, Christian Tyler Tio, Miguel Alejandro Fortuna of Manila, Pawandeep Singh of Pampanga, Mahloney Tarranza of Davao and Anthony Sistoza of General Santos City.
Fortuna and Ferrer are the younger siblings of Jeric and Kevin, respectively.
Aged 13-14, the boys were the top achievers in the three-day boot camp that put together the best 50 players to emerge from the regional selection camps held in Dagupan, Davao, Lucena, Metro Manila and the Alaska Power Camp in March and early April.
This year’s National Training Camp was jointly conducted by NBA legend Muggsy Bogues, Jr. NBA head coach and senior director for basketball operations of NBA Asia Sefu Bernard, PBA legend Jojo Lastimosa, and coaches from key cities who were candidates for the Jr. NBA Coach of the Year award.
Coach Raymon Mercader of Quezon, Bukidnon was selected as the Jr. NBA Coach of the Year.
