KIB Montalbo, Makati’s new recruit this season, delivered the first game winner of his MPBL career.
The former La Salle guard scored a buzzer-beating jumper to lift the Makati Super Crunch to a thrilling 96-94 win over the Pampanga Giant Lanterns on Wednesday night in the Lakan Cup at the JCSGO Gym in Quezon City.
Montalbo scored the last four points of the game, including the dagger trey that propelled the Super Crunch to their fourth straight win that improved their win-loss record to 8-1 for third spot in the tough northern division.
Makati battled back in the game dominated for most part by the Giant Lanterns, who were held without a field goal for more than four minutes. That resulted in a 14-3 run capped by Montalbo’s game winner.
The Caloocan Supremos extended their winning streak to five after dominating the Paranaque Patriots, 90-75, in the other game.
Almond Vosotros set an MPBL personal high of 35 points, including a steady 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc as the Supremos improved to 6-5.
Pasig-Sta. Lucia Realty outplayed Quezon City, 91-82, to raise its record to 7-3 and keep a hold of the No. 4 spot in the northern division.
