KG Canaleta earned a second call-up with the Taichung Suns in the T1 League in Taiwan.

Not as player but as member of the team coaching staff.

The 40-year-old veteran joined Chris Gavina at the Suns' bench as part of the team coaching staff this season.

The five-time PBA Slam Dunk champion suited up for the Suns as a player last year after failing to reach a renewal contract with Blackwater.

Gavina was elated to have Canaleta join the coaching staff of the franchise right in his first season with the Suns.

Canaleta will have his first official game as part of the Suns coaching staff on Christmas Day against the Kaoshiung Aquaa.

The Suns are currently in fourth place with an even 4-4 record.

"He's provided great insights. He has so much experience, wisdom, and knowledge to share with myself and our players here," said Gavina from Taipei on Friday night.

"We are trying to level up our level of physicality here as in the Philippines," added the former Terrafirma head coach.

Gavina and Canaleta are no strangers, having worked together back in 2016 when the KIA franchise earned its first and only playoffs berth during the Governors Cup.

"We were part of that history," said Gavina.

Canaleta's role with the Suns also include developing the bigs of the team.

"KG will also be leading the development of our bigs in regards to being able to stretch the floor the way he has done his whole career, and so that will allow me to focus on the development of our guards' playmaking," said Gavina.
