WITH one final turnover to cap what had been a miserable second-half performance, Kevin Alas immediately knew he would be taking a lot of heat for the Game One loss.
The Letran star, at least, is man enough to face it.
"Honestly kailangan sisihin sarili ko dahil akin talaga 'yung maling 'yun," said Alas, looking back at the final play when his team put the ball in his hands with San Beda leading by two, 62-60, and the Knights needing a basket to tie it and a three-pointer to win.
Alas, who scored just three points in the second half after hitting 15 in the first, found himself cornered near the sideline by a San Beda double-team, forcing him to make a weak pass which Jake Pascual deflected into the waiting hands of Baser Amer.
"Kumbaga kung nai-shoot ko at least may chance kanina. Di ko nabigyan ng chance sarili namin maka attempt man lang," said the Knights star. "Sabi ko sa sarili ko I'll take the responsibility no matter what. But it's all on me talaga. Error (ko) so kailangan ko panindigan."
Alas remains winless against the Red Lions in his college career, but he has vowed to give it his best shot in Game Two of the best-of-three series on Saturday.
But first things first, he needs to put the Game One disappointment behind him.
"Honestly mag sisinungaling ako kung sasabihin kong naka-move on na ako. Ngayon, learn from experience na lang. Kailangan ko lang paglabanan," said Alas.
"Kailangan talaga namin maipanalo ang next game."
