CARL Tamayo’s Changwon LG Sakers gutted out a tight 69-67 thriller over SJ Belangel’s Daegu KOGAS Pegasus in their Korean Basketball League (KBL) clash on Thursday at Changwon Gymnasium.
Tamayo put up 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal, but almost cost the game for his side as he got swiped by Andrew Nicholson with 14 seconds to play.
Fortunately, the former Bay Area Dragon center missed the potential game-winning three at the buzzer.
Changwon improved to a 20-13 as it extended its win streak to six, while also sending Daegu to back-to-back defeats as it dropped to an 18-15 record.
Belangel chipped in 23 points on 3-of-6 shooting from deep, seven assists, and two rebounds in the loss.
Meanwhile, JD Cagulangan got the better of Ethan Alvano on Wednesday as Suwon KT SonicBoom escaped with a 71-69 nipping of Wonju DB Promy at Wonju Gymnasium.
Alvano missed the potential game-winning three at the buzzer and it was a microcosm of his horrifying 1-of-12 night from the field, and 1-of-9 from distance, as he only had three points, seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals for the 16-18 Wonju.
Cagulangan did fare a little better with his six points, three assists, and one board in 10 minutes off the bench for Suwon, which climbed up to 18-15.
Justin Gutang’s 10-point effort was also wasted in Seoul Samsung Thunders’ 79-75 defeat to Seoul SK Knights at Jamsil Gymnasium.
He also collected seven rebounds and five assists in the game, but could not put an end to the Thunders’ five-game skid to drop to 11-22.
