    Karl Dehesa powers Bataan past SSLC of China and into 3x3 semis

    KARL Dehesa powered 1Bataan Risers to a thrilling 21-15 victory over SSLC of China to advance to the Chooks-to-Go 3x3 Asia Pacific Super Quest semifinals on Sunday at SM Megamall Fashion Hall.

    The sweet-shooting guard uncorked seven points, including a gutsy drive in the final 1:36 to secure the win.

    " We're in constant communication with each other and just stuck together in the end of the game, showing our resilient attitude and our persistence to get the W," said Dehesa.

    Travis Franklin added seven points, Alvin Pasaol scored four despite an aching right leg, while Santi Santillan chipped in three.

    1Bataan advanced to the last four against Jakarta West, which upset world No. 15 Ulaanbaatar of Mongolia, 20-19.

    The win also assured that the Risers will play in one of the Fiba 3x3 Challenger series in May.

    Yao Xiao topped SSLC with seven points.

    Meanwhile, the Pasig Grindhouse Kings hacked out a tough 19-13 victory over TSV Reading Cinemas of Australia to clinch a spot in the semifinals.

    Serbian reinforcement Nikola Pavlovic fired nine points, including the dagger long bomb with 38 seconds to play as both Philippine teams made it to the Final Four.

    Joshua Munzon also took charge late to finish with five points, Taylor Statham added four, and Troy Rike scored one as the Kings survived a highly-physical battle in the quarterfinals.

    "We knew watching them that they were a physical team. We had to be ready, come in here, and go to war," said Munzon. "We didn't back down. We prepared ourselves mentally for what the game was going to be. We came out here and executed our game plan."

    Pasig set a semifinal date against world no. 19 Tokyo Dime.exe, which knocked off Aotearoa of New Zealand, 22-9.

    Tim Coenraad topped TSV Reading Cinemas with seven points.
