    Kai Sotto stands tall in taking top spot in first week of NBTC high school player rankings

    KAI Sotto of Ateneo topped the first week of the NBTC-Chooks To Go High School Player Rankings for his recent play in UAAP Season 80.

    In a rankings determined by a panel of coaches and sportswriters over the weekend, the 15-year-old Sotto made it at the top after a stellar first round of the UAAP Season 80 competition.

    He also began the second round by finishing with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks in a win over University of Santo Tomas on Saturday.

    Joining Sotto in the top five of the weekly rankings are NCAA Season 93 Finals MVP Joel Cagulangan of La Salle Greenhills, NCAA Season 93 season MVP Will Gozum of Mapua, UAAP Season 80 leading MVP candidate CJ Cansino of University of Santo Tomas, and SJ Belangel of Ateneo.

      The weekly rankings that is also called ‘NBTC 24’ and will run until March is the basis for inclusion for the 24 players that will make it NBTC High School All-Star Game set on March at the Mall of Asia Arena.

      Rounding out the top 10 are L-Jay Gonzales of Far Eastern University, Rhayyan Amsali of National University, Dave Ildefonso of Ateneo, Aaron Fermin of Arellano, and Clint Escamis of Mapua.

      Inand Fornilos of La Salle Greenhills, Evan Nelle of San Beda, Warren Bonifacio of Mapua, John Galinato of Chiang Kai Shek College, RJ Abarrientos of FEU, Terrence Fortea of NU, Jancork Cabahug of University of Visayas, McLaude Guadana of Lyceum, Raven Cortez of De La Salle-Zobel, and Harvey Pagsanjan of Hope Christian High School made it to the 11th to 20th spots.

      Jielo Razon of Perpetual Help, Joem Sabandal of Adamson, Maui Cruz of Emilio Aguinaldo College, and Niel Tolentino of Letran are also included in the top 24.

      The players are being ranked based on their performances in the UAAP, NCAA, Cesafi-NBTC, MMBL, and FCAAF and the following criteria: league stats, impact in team, team record, leadership, defense, offense, and level of competition.
