Kai Sotto, Jalen Green cross paths again in NBTC All-Star Game

    Mar 11, 2019

KAI Sotto is looking forward to meeting Jalen Green anew following their matchup in last year's NBTC All-Star Game.

"Excited ako na makasama ulit si Jalen," the 7-foot-2 prodigy said during the press conference for the 2019 Chooks-to-Go SM-NBTC National Finals on Monday.

Sotto, who is once again the top-ranked high school player in the country, hopes to be teammates with the 2018 Fiba Under-17 Basketball World Cup MVP at Team Hustle this year after being on opposing sides the last time out.

"Nagkita kami sa Argentina noong FIBA World Cup. Sana maging teammates daw kami pagdating ng All-Star," said the towering center for the Ateneo Blue Eaglets. "Excited lang ako."

The 17-year-old Sotto would love to be side-by-side with Green in this year's affair.

He has already drafted UST guard Mark Nonoy, NU court general Gerry Abadiano, Ateneo bruiser Geo Chiu, and NU scorer Terrence Fortea to Team Hustle, together with Kevin Quiambao of NU, RJ Abarrientos of FEU-Diliman, John Amores of JRU, Jonnel Policarpio of Mapua, Forthsky Padrigao of Ateneo, Bismarck Lina of UST, and Clint Escamis of Mapua.

They will be facing the Joel Cagulangan-captained Team Heart, which is composed of NU slotman Carl Tamayo, forwards Inand Fornilos and Joshua David of La Salle Green Hills, and Hope Christian star Harvey Pagsanjan, as well as Joem Sabandal of Adamson, Aaron Fermin of Arellano, Paolo Hernandez and Dan Arches of Mapua, Joshua Yerro of UV, Mac Guadana of Lyceum, and Rafael Go of Chiang Kai Shek.

Six more players from the international teams will be inserted in the All-Star squads, joining the top 24 high school players in the exhibition game set on March 23, Saturday.

But if things don't pan out and Green goes to Team Heart, Sotto doesn't want a repeat of last year's incident where the Fil-Am stud posterized him with a one-handed jam.

"Kung ikaw, papayagan mo ba na madakdakan ka ulit?" he said with a smile, yet still aware of the essence of the All-Star Game.

"Gusto naming i-enjoy itong moment na ito dahil hindi every day na makakalaban mo yung mga dito sa NBTC. Enjoy lang tapos try pa rin namin na manalo."
