TEAM Punks beat Team Hype, 124-116, in overtime in the Slam Rising Stars Classic 2018 on Sunday night at the Gatorade Hoops Center, thanks to the heroics of Kai Sotto and Evan Nelle.
Sotto, Ateneo's 7-1 teen slotman, and San Beda high school star Nelle were named co-MVPs while former Blue Eaglet and now National University recruit Dave Ildefonso hit the tough three-pointer that sent the game into extra time.
Nelle finished with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Sotto had 16 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks for Team Punks, which trailed by three, 104-101, with 15 seconds left after a three by Hype’s John Galinato of Chiang Kai Shek College.
Ildefonso tied game at 104-all after converting a tough three-pointer with three seconds to play.
RJ Abarrientos had 17 points and five assists while Ildefonso added 15 points and three rebounds for the Team Punks side coached by Far Eastern University coach Olsen Racela.
“It feels great that the future of Philippine basketball is very bright,” said Racela.
Galinato had 27 points, three rebounds, and four assists while UAAP Season 80 MVP CJ Cansino added 20 points for Team Hype, which came roaring back from 17 points down in regulation.
