Kai Sotto, Belangel keep 1-2 spots in NBTC rankings as two Cebuanos crack Top 24

    Feb 6, 2018

KAI Sotto remained on top of the NBTC-Chooks To Go High School Power Rankings even as two Cebu-based prodigies entered the Top 24 in Week Four.

Sotto and Ateneo teammate SJ Belangel remained one-two in the 'NBTC 24' list following the Blue Eaglets' win over University of the Philippines Integrated School on Sunday in UAAP Season 80 action.

Biern Laurente of University of Visayas and Alex Visser of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu, meantime, made it at Nos. 20 and 21 for their fine play in the NBTC Cebu tournament over the weekend.

The rankings, determined by a panel of high school coaches and sportswriters, will determine who will play in the NBTC All-Star Game slated in March at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Sotto had 16 points and 13 rebounds, good enough to keep him at No. 1, as Belangel finished with 19 points in Ateneo’s 90-75 win over UPIS that kept the Blue Eaglets undefeated in 12 matches.

Laurente is averaging 13.5 points per game while Visser is hitting at a 15.3-point clip in the NBTC Cebu cagefest that opened recently.

Joel Cagulangan of La Salle Greenhills remained in third place while Mapua’s Will Gozum, who recently committed to play college ball for University of the Philippines, stayed in fourth.

L-Jay Gonzalez also kept his hold of fifth spot after finishing with 24 points in Far Eastern University’s overtime win over De La Salle Zobel.

Rhayyan Amsali of National University remained at No. 6 while Dave Ildefonso of Ateneo and RJ Abarrientos of FEU moved to Nos. 7 and 8, respectively, as CJ Cansino of University of Santo Tomas finished in ninth spot.
