FORMER San Beda and National U guard JV Gallego tragically passed away on Saturday after being involved in a car crash.
He was 28.
Gallego was traversing NLEX back to Manila with his wife when they figured in an accident in Libtong, Meycauayan, Bulacan.
Tributes have since poured in for Gallego, with former Chiang Kai Shek College teammate and now-Titan Ultra guard Fran Yu among the first to post a heartfelt message.
"Thank you for being an incredible person, a great teammate, and a true friend from the very beginning. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, and every moment we shared on and off the court. Your kindness, heart, and presence made a difference to all of us. You’ll always be remembered, and you’ll forever be a part of our team and our family," he wrote.
Coming out of CKSC, Gallego was a top prospect before committing to the Bulldogs then later transferring to the Red Lions, with whom he won the NCAA Season 99 title. He was also part of the Batang Gilas team which played in the 2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship.
Gallego last played for Bicol Volcanoes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) back in 2024.
He has since handled the basketball program for World Citi Colleges.
