ON a steamy Friday night, Jeff Viernes waxed hot to lift Jumbo Plastic to its second consecutive title in the PCBL.

Viernes had 21 points, six rebounds, and eight assists as the Linoleum Giants edged Mighty Sports, 80-68, in deciding Game Three to capture the Chairman’s Cup championship at the Marikina Sports Center.

Viernes scored all the points in the game-clinching 7-0 blast, including two on a tough fade away jumper with 2:52 left in the final frame that broke the game's last deadlock at 63-all.

In all, he scored 11 of Jumbo Plastic’s 27 points in the fourth en route to his second consecutive Finals MVP award.

It was the second successive title for Jumbo Plastic, a team which began in the PBA D-League but enjoyed success in the PCBL beginning in the inaugural Founders’ Cup last year.

“First of all, to God be the glory. And second, dahil ‘to sa hardwork,” said Jumbo Plastic coach Stevenson Tiu. “Coming from the first round, masama ‘yung record namin pero since sinabi ko sa kanila na they are the defending champions at kailangan may pride tayo, nag-respond sila.”

Bright Akhuetie had 14 points and 15 rebounds for Mighty Sports, which failed to take advantage of its Game One victory by dropping the final two matches of the best-of-three series.

Mighty Sports, which failed to hold on to a 35-28 halftime lead, also played without Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Ferrer in Game Three.

Ravena is in London for an event while Ferrer is with the Gilas cadets side that is set to face host Thailand in the final of the Seaba Cup.

    The scores:

    Jumbo Plastic (80) — Viernes 21, Eguilos 18, Martinez 15, Taganas 12, Arafat 7, Santos 5, Lopez 2, Arellano 0, Siruma 0, Ibay 0.
