NATIONAL Housing Authority and Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission try to boost their bid for the other outright semis berth when they face separate rivals Sunday in the 6th UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Sporting a 7-2 mark in Group B, the NHA Builders collide with the GSIS Furies at 2 p.m. with the former out to close out their second round campaign on a high note.
Though the Builders are coming off a stinging 96-89 defeat that ended a five-game winning streak, coach Benet Palad expressed confidence they can beat the Furies, saying his players are raring to go into the next round on a winning mood.
“I’m trying to focus on the mental aspect of their game so I’m upbeat of our chances,” said the former UST hotshot.
The Malacañang-PSC Kamao, on the other hand, take on the dangerous Senate Defenders at 3:30 p.m. eager to follow their 75-72 win over the Furies in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon for public servants.
Both the Kamao and the Defenders are toting similar 6-2 records in the tournament offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
Also worth watching is the game between reigning titlist PNP and Judiciary.
The PNP Responders are no longer in the running for the second and last automatic semis berth but they are determined to win their last two games to have a better position in the quarters.
But the Responders can expect a fierce encounter with the Magis who are still in semis hunt with a 6-2 record in Group A.
