JOSE Rizal University, University of the East, and San Sebastian make their final preparations ahead of their respective collegiate seasons, as they lead the cast for the inaugural Philippine Premier Basketball Championship (PPBC).
The three are the forerunners in the 25U Division where they will be joined by St. Clare, Our Lady of Fatima University, and San Pablo Colleges in the lean six-team field.
Unquestionably the favorites in the tourney, the Heavy Bombers will once again lean on Lawrence Mangubat, Chris Hubilla, and Sean Salvador, though they brace for the challenge of Tope Lagat's Red Warriors and Ralph Gabat's Golden Stags.
The same cast will also be featured in the 19U tournament, as both divisions play in a single round robin format with the top two teams advancing to the finals.
PPBC women's tournament
Meanwhile, the women's division is composed of the University of the Philippines A and B, Adamson, Queenpin, and Army.
The ladies open the festivities this Sunday at UP Varsity Training Center with UP B taking on Queenpin at 8 a.m. and UP A facing off against guest team Taiwan Pumen School at 9:30 a.m. in this tourney sponsored by D'Generals Basketball Program, Hoop Spirit Basketball Court, and Mejos Lechon Cebu.
Eric Altamirano is serving as commissioner, with Andy Mejos as tournament director, Noli Mejos as technical head, and Maria Theresa Magno as operations head.
