JOSE Rizal University defeated University of San Carlos of Cebu, 78-61, on Wednesday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Jaycee Asuncion had 18 points, Tey Teodoro and Philip Paniamogan added 14 points each as the Heavy Bombers (1-0) won their first game in the preseason tournament.
Import Razal Abdulwahab had an all-around game of 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and three blocks for JRU.
“We have no idea how they play dahil hindi namin sila nakakalaban,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses. “We just anticipate ‘yung mga plays na puwede nilang gawin. I keep on telling them na they have to be ready and play defense on their own.”
Congo import Espoir Toyambi had 20 points and 12 rebounds while Shooster Olago, another reinforcement from Mali, had 14 points. Miguel Plata had 12 points for the Junthy Valenzuela-coached Warriors, who are participating in their first preseason tournament in Manila.
