    Jr. NBA holds regional training camp in Lucena

    THE 2013 Jr. NBA Philippines holds its third and penultimate Regional Selection Camp this weekend at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City with spots to the National Training Camp at stake.

    The two-day selection camp starting on Saturday will give boys aged 10 to 14 years old the chance to join a learn-and-achieve camp that will test their physical and basketball smarts through NBA style skills tests and basketball drills.

    The camp, presented by Alaska, starts at 9 a.m.

    The first day of the RSC is devoted to skills tests and drills and the selection of the Top 40 performers, while the second day consists of more drills, conditioning exercises, and scrimmages among the participants.

    NBA Asia senior director of basketball operations Sefu Bernard, along with local Jr. NBA coaches led by PBA Legend Jojo Lastimosa will evaluate the players based on their vitals tests and skills stations scores.

    As many as 10 players may be chosen in Lucena to join the National Training Camp set in Manila from April 26 to 28 and get a chance to be selected as members of the Jr. NBA 2013 All Star Team.

    An NBA Cares activity will be conducted at the Barangay 1 Day Care Center on Monday when kids aged 3 to 8 will have their first taste of a Fun Basketball Clinic courtesy of the Jr. NBA Coaching Staff and the newly selected Jr. NBA participants from Lucena.

    The final Regional Selection Camp is set April 13 and 14 at Aquinas School Gym in San Juan City.

    The top 50 participants in the regionals will converge at UP Diliman Gym on April 26 and 27 and the SM Mall of Asia on April 28.

    Besides the presentation of the Top Ten players of 2013, the last day of the NTC will highlight the first exhibition game of Jr. NBA All Stars Alumni from the 2007 to 2012 batches. NBA Legend Muggsy Bogues will coach Team Muggsy, while the other alumni team will be mentored by Lastimosa.

    The 10 Jr. NBA Philippines All Stars of 2013 will be rewarded with an authentic NBA experience later in the year, giving them the chance to play against a counterpart Jr. NBA team abroad. The Coach of the Year will also be announced at the National Training Camp.

    Registration for the Regional Selection Camp can be made online on the Jr. NBA website www.jrnbaphilippines.com.ph or on site at 8 a.m., before the start of the selection camps.
