JOHN Wilson scored San Juan’s last 12 points in overtime and wound up with 44, a new MPBL record, as the Knights bested the Pampanga Giant Lanterns, 102-97, on Tuesday at the Angeles University Foundation Gym in Pampanga.
Wilson, the 2009 NCAA MVP with the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, made 5 of 9 two-point attempts, went 9 for 17 from the three-point line and sank all seven if his free throws to power the Knights to a pacesetting 13-1 record in the North division of the Lakan Season.
That broke the MPBL record of 41 points set last year by Leomer Losentes of the General Santos Warriors in a win over Pasig.
Mike Ayonayon had 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Jhonard Clarito also had a double-double with 15 and 12.
The Giant Lanterns, who forced overtime at 85 following a layup by John Dexter Maiquez with 33 seconds to go, dropped to 9-5.
Maiquez wound up with 24 points while Levi Hernandez, Reil Cervantes and Michael Juico scored 14 each.
The Davao Occidental Tigers cruised to an 88-76 victory over the Bicol Volcanoes.
Mark Yee scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his 29th MPBL double-double as the Tigers improved to a 12-2 card in the South division.
Emman Calo had 15 points, Bogs Raymundo scored 11 and Chester Saldua chipped in 10 for the Tigers, who controlled the boards, 42-27.
Basilan Steel shrugged off a sluggish start to beat Imus Bandera, 96-85, to improve to 9-5.
Jay Collado scored 17 points and Cris Dumapig tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Steel.
The Bandera absorbed their fourth straight loss and fell to 3-11.
