GENERAL Santos City defeated the Zamboanga Rapidos, 78-69, on Wednesday in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Navotas Sports Complex.
John Orbeta knocked in 12 of his 15 points in the third period, while Joren Morada scored 16 as the Warriors scored their fourth straight win.
Gen San improved its win-loss record to 11-9, just half a game behind third placer Batangas City in the southern division.
“I just told the players to stay consistent on what we’re doing. We know that it’s not impossible to beat any team in the MPBL. In this tournament, I think anybody can beat anybody,” said GenSan coach Ramon Pido.
Navotas defeated Basilan, 102-97, for its first-ever home win in the league.
Jai Reyes led the way with 21 points, while Marlon Gomez had a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds as Navotas scored its 10th win in 21 games for sixth spot in the northern division.
“I think this victory at home means a lot, particularly to the people of Navotas. Had we lost another home game, we don’t know what’s going to happen next. Maybe, we will not be able to get the string support that we usually get from them,” said Navotas coach Gabby Severino.
