EVEN fatigue couldn't stop the 'Bus Driver' from sending the Arellano Chiefs to their first-ever Filoil Cup finals destination.
Jio Jalalon looked anything but weary in leading Arellano to another chance at a preseason title before the start of NCAA Season 92.
Jalalon scored 34 points on Friday to lift the Chiefs to a 94-85 win over National University in the semifinals of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup despite playing for the third straight day, and the Chiefs' fourth game in five days, after they triumphed in the semifinals and finals of the Fr. Martin Cup on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Arellano also played on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the Filoil tournament when the Chiefs beat San Beda to secure a Final Four berth.
Jalalon, though, was pleasantly surprised he even managed to do what he did, scoring the fourth highest output in the Filoil Cup, on tired legs.
“’Yung pagod namin, kasi araw-araw na kami naglalaro. Buti nakapahinga kami ng maayos,” said Jalalon.
“Hindi ko inexpect ‘yun,” he added. “Sabi ko nga kay coach, kung gusto mo dumiskarte, diskarte. ‘Yung fourth quarter, hindi kami naka-create ng mga plays namin kaya sabi ko, kunin ko na lang ‘yung bola.”
The Chiefs take a well-deserved break on Saturday before going to battle on Sunday where they play for another championship in the preseason. Fatigued or not, Jalalon said the team will go all out for the crown before the NCAA season starts.
“Paghahandaan namin. Kung ano man ‘yung laro namin ngayon, siguro kailangan lang namin mag-adjust,” said Jalalon.
