JERWIN Gaco added an MPBL title to his growing collection after Davao Occidental ruled the Chooks-to-Go Lakan Season on Sunday.
The 40-year-old Gaco was one of the key players of the Tigers squad that won its first-ever MPBL championship by dethroning San Juan, 89-88, in a hard-fought Game 4 that went into overtime.
It was a totally new experience for Davao, but a familiar one for Gaco.
During his PBA career, the former La Salle and Polytechnic University of the Philippines big man captured five titles with the Magnolia franchise including the 2014 grand slam when the team was still named San Mig Coffee under by Tim Cone.
Even before the PBA, Gaco had won titles in the defunct Philippine Basketball League with Harbour Centre, and in the Asean Basketball League with the Philippine Patriots.
After his stint with the Mixers were he was primarily a third-stringer, Gaco bounced around in the PBA D-League where he won another championship before moving to the MPBL.
It was only this year that Gaco tasted championship success again with Davao after stops at Imus and Nueva Ecija.

Gaco, however, wasn’t just the ‘lucky charm’ of the ballclub.
The 6-foot-4 cager played a key role in Davao Occidental’s 66-58 win over San Juan in Game 3 on Saturday as he contributed seven points and three rebounds, most of the production coming in the first half that helped the Tigers take control of the game from the get go.
Gaco only scored four points in Game 4 but brought the intangibles in 16 minutes of play for the Tigers, who won on a game-winning triple by fellow PBA veteran Mark Yee in overtime.
When the final buzzer sounded, Gaco was once again a champion.
