JERIE Pingoy scored all of his seven points in the clutch as Adamson defeated Arellano, 61-56, in overtime on Monday to win on opening day in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
Pingoy scored back-to-back baskets, including a lay-up that put the Falcons ahead, 58-56, with 58 seconds left in the game, before Papi Sarr put the finishing touches to the win by scoring a three-point play with three seconds to play in overtime.
The former Ateneo guard sent the game into extra session when he buried a crucial triple with 20.8 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 48-48.
Still, Adamson coach Franz Pumaren sees a lot of room for improvement with the team following the thrilling win.
“That is why we are here. As you can see, we are still a work in progress. We have new guys, we just have to stay with the course. We still have a lot of polishing to do,” said Pumaren.
“At least, we are the only UAAP team that won today,” added Pumaren, referring to the losses of UAAP Season 79 finalists La Salle and Ateneo on opening day.
Dawn Ochea had 14 points, while Fil-American Tyrus Hill scored 10 for the Falcons. Sarr had a near double-double of nine points and 18 rebounds for Adamson.
Kent Salado had 14 points, but missed a potential game-winning lay-up in regulation. Archie Concepcion had 13 markers, while Lervin Flores added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
