ALMOST a year since their classic duel in the UAAP men’s basketball finals, brothers Jeric and Jeron Teng cross paths once again as they see action in the Master Game Face All-Star Basketball Challenge Year 2 set June 21 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Jeric was selected to suit up for the team of San Mig Coffee star Marc Pingris on Saturday when the meet held its drafting at the Mall of Asia Music Hall.
Players from the PBA, Gilas Pilipinas, UAAP, and NCAA were among those drafted by the teams of Pingris and Chris Tiu.
Jeron on the other hand, was picked to be part of the team by Tiu, who incidentally, is a teammate of Jeric at Rain or Shine in the PBA.
The 7 p.m. match two weeks from now rekindles the rivalry between the prolific Teng brothers, who faced each other in a memorable championship series of UAAP Season 76 that saw Jeron leading the La Salle Green Archers to the title over Jeric and the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.
For Jeric, the face-off will be a chance to get even with brother Jeron following the Tigers’ heartbreaking meltdown against the Archers in overtime during the decisive Game 3 of last year’s finals.
“Masaya dahil may chance makabawi,” said Jeric. “Akala ko magkakampi kami pero magkalaban pala. Opportunity lang na makabawi.”
“Excited kaming dalawa to face each other again,” said Jeron for his part.
Apart from Jeron, others selected as part of Tem Chris include Ranidel De Ocampo of Talk 'N Text, Jeff Chan of Rain or Shine, Mike Cortez of Meralco, Jimmy Alapag of Talk 'N Text, Cliff Hodge of Meralco, and Alex Nuyles of Rain or Shine composed Team Chris
Completing Tiu’s roster are Chris Newsome of Ateneo, Kevin Ferrer of University of Santo Tomas, Mike Tolomia of Far Eastern University, Rome Dela Rosa of San Beda, Mark Cruz of Letran, and Zach Nichols of Arellano joining the PBA stars.
Jeric will be joined in Team Marc by San Mig Coffee’s Mark Barroca, Gary David of Meralco, Larry Fonacier of Talk 'N Text, Jared Dillinger of Meralco, Jeric Teng of Rain or Shine, and Paul Artadi of Meralco.
Amateur players comprising Pingris’ team are Andre Paras, Jeff Javillonar of National University, Jericho Cruz of Adamson, Roi Sumang of University of the East, Baser Amer of San Beda, Kevin Racal of Letran, and Josan Nimes of Mapua.
