JEFF Chan is targeting a Friday return on the court in Gilas Pilipinas practice as he recovers from a groin injury he suffered in Rain or Shine’s title-clinching game against Alaska in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals last week.
The Elasto Painters gunner, who reported for national duty for the first time on Tuesday morning, has been undergoing therapy and is planning to have an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) test if the pain persists.
“Sa ngayon di pa (kaya ilaro), may pain pa,” Chan admitted after practice. “’Di ko nga mahabol yung mga bata eh. Basta pahinga lang, no legs, no jumping, no running.”
Chan is hoping to return as soon as possible to keep himself in shape.
“Gusto ko na rin (maglaro),” the 32-year-old cager said. “Ayaw ko rin ma-out of shape. Baka pag nawala ako ng two weeks, baka mahirapan ako makabalik.”
“Ayaw ko rin magtagal,” he added. “Sana positive lang yung result.”
Still, Chan, one of Gilas’ top shooters alongside Marcio Lassiter, will still continue to attend practice on the sidelines for now.
“Kailangan ko panoorin yung plays at gustong ipagawa ni coach Tab,” he said. “Ayaw ko namang mawala at wala akong idea pagbalik ko. Mental, kailangan pag-aralan yung pwesto ko, kung ano yung gagawin ko.”
