JC Marcelino’s breakout finally came and it resulted into a championship for Lyceum before the collegiate season ended.

Marcelino pumped in 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals as he towed the Pirates to their first-ever PCCL title with a 70-66 victory over the San Beda Red Lions on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The 5-foot-9 Marcelino definitely relished the chance of getting a semblance of revenge over their Season 93 finals tormentors, but even with the PCCL crown, the end goal is to definitely win one in the NCAA.

“Siyempre masaya na finally nagchampion kami at nanalo kami sa San Beda ng first time sa championship,” said Marcelino who was named the Finals MVP.

“Oo naman, gusto ko talaga makabawi, hindi naman mawawala yun. Pero gusto ko rin makaranas na makakuha din ng champion sa NCAA,” he added.

But regardless of the league, the energetic guard out of Olongapo is just thankful that they have finally won a championship and it came in the PCCL no less.

“Ang goal ko talaga makapagchampion, gusto ko rin makaranas kaya every practice, every game, go hard talaga ako at may extra effort para manalo yung team,” he continued.

His performance in their final two games has been amazing, with this final outing a fitting follow-up to his 24-point, 10-rebound game against the San Sebastian Stags in the Final Four.

For him, it’s just a result of hours of hard work put in practices and he’s happy that it’s finally showing up.

“Kada practice, dumadagdag. Nag-extra talaga ako ng hard work para yung goal ko na matulungan yung team ko na makakuha ng championship kahit anong liga, makuha ko. Tulad nito, nakuha na namin yung championship,” he added.

And with this victory, Marcelino is confident that they now have the experience to hang with San Beda heading into the next NCAA season.

“Siguro experience ito, nagkaexperience kami na makapagchampion at sa susunod alam na namin ang gagawin namin.”
