JAYJAY Helterbrand is set to make his return to competitive basketball after signing a deal with the Imus Bandera in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
No less than Helterbrand confirmed the signing in an Instagram post on Monday night which was made just in time before the MPBL Lakan Cup which will open on Wednesday.
Helterbrand initially said there is no truth to the rumors of an MPBL comeback, although he admitted there were ongoing talks of a stake in the Bandera team.
“I feel excited to be lacing it up competitively and to be doing what I love,” Helterbrand wrote.
Helterbrand’s signing should be a huge boost not just to the Bandera but also the growing fan base of the league.
Helterbrand played for 17 seasons in the PBA with Barangay Ginebra, the country’s most popular team.
Now 42, Helterbrand is currently playing for Ginebra in the UNTV Cup PBA Legends Faceoff.
“Thank you also to @mannypacquiao for creating this league for our homegrown players,” Helterbrand added.
