WHILE NLEX-SCTEX continues to struggle in the group stages in the Merlion Cup in Singapore, Jason Perkins’ fine play provides some hope for the team in the Singapore tournament.
The 6-foot-3 lefty forward has led the Philippine side with import-like averages of 24.7 points and 13.0 rebounds for the squad featuring the core of D-League side Cignal Hawkeyes.
What's more remarkable is that he has put up these numbers against the likes of former NBA player Ha Seung-jin of Korea.
The two met when NLEX-SCTEX took on Jeonju KCC Egis in their opening game. Perkins made a good account of himself against the 7-foot-3 giant, dropping 25 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
His biggest game, though, came in a 104-90 loss to Indonesian team Satria Muda Petramina, where he went up against former PBA imports Shawn Taggart and Dior Lowhorn with 32 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and one steal.
"Jason has all the tools to make an immediate impact on any team he gets drafted by," said NLEX-SCTEX coach Jojo Lastimosa.
"He's one of the few draftees who's pro ready with the body and skill set to show for."
Perkins applied for the PBA Draft after leading Cignal to a championship double in the D-League.
