KAI Sotto's much awaited return ended in a dampener as the Gilas Pilipinas center went down with an ankle injury on Saturday.
The 7-foot-3 big man finally made his Japan B.League season debut and immediately started for Koshigaya Alphas in its road game against Ibaraki Robots at Hitachi City Ikenokawa Sakura Arena.
He was scoreless in 10 minutes of play, missing both of his field goal attempts but rejected three shots, had two assists, and one rebound.
Sotto was going for the block on Ibaraki's Kotaro Hisaoka when he landed awkwardly and had to be subbed out at the 3:34 mark of the third period.
There's still no word from the team on the injury, although it looked like a sprained ankle on his right foot.
Sotto is coming off an ACL injury on his right knee and this was his first game in over a year.
Fortunately, Koshigaya gutted out the 83-81 win to improve to an 11-20 record after the All-Star break.
