JANINE Pontejos fired 29 points as Philippine Army defeated Go For Gold-Philippine Navy, 78-47, on Saturday in the 2022 WNBL season at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
Pontejos, the inaugural Season MVP of the league in 2019, provided the baskets for the Lady Battalion after trailing, 12-5, at the end of the first period, scoring 12 in the second quarter to grab a 32-27 lead which they never relinquished. She shot 5-of-12 from the three-point line.
Strong start for Army
Chack Cabinbin added 10 points and 10 assists for the Lady Battalion.
Ewon Arayi led Philippine Navy with 15 points.
Army looks to go 2-0 on Sunday when it faces the Stan Quezon Lady Spartans at 11:45 a.m., while the Go For Gold-Philippine Navy squares off against the PSI Lady Air Defenders at 1:45 p.m.
