James Martinez shows way as Bulacan Kuyas rip Rizal Crusaders in MPBL

BULACAN shook off a sluggish start and rolled to its first win in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, beating Rizal, 80-61, on Tuesday at the Baliuag Star Arena.

The Kuyas kept the Crusaders scoreless for over 10 minutes to bridge the second and third period and take control of the game for good.

Trailing 21-33 with a little less than eight minutes left in the first half, the Kuyas went on a 24-0 run which culminated with a Jason Melano jumper for a 45-33 lead.

James Martinez, Jay-R Taganas and reserve Wowie Escosio kept the run going, resulting in a breezy win for the home side.

Martinez led the Kuyas with 18 points as Taganas filled the scoresheet with 10 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists.

Melano, Dan Wong, Gboy Babilonia and Stephen Siruma all finished with eight points apiece.

Paul Santiago paced the Crusaders with 13 points as James Abugan added 10 points and six boards.
