Jalen Green expects total commitment from NBA G League Select teammates

Fil-Am prodigy vows no days off as he prepares for trailblazing G-League stint
    Aug 16, 2020

JALEN Green was the first commit to the NBA G League Select team, but he doesn't think that he really influenced other recruits in joining him in the groundbreaking professional pathway program.

"I don't know if I'm a big influence to them, but I know I'm bros with every single one of those players," he said in his NBA online media availability.

"At the end of the day, it's their decision on what they want to do and I'm excited to play with every single one of the players that's on the team."

The Fil-Am high-flyer is set to team up with Filipino prodigy Kai Sotto as well as fellow top-ranked US high school prospects Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix, Congolese winger Jonathan Kuminga and Indian forward Princepal Singh in the NBA G League select team, which will be coached by Brian Shaw.

It's a brand-new road for prospects who shun college and overseas offers to put their full focus on preparing for the NBA.

Green expects everyone of his peers not to waste this chance.

"I look at it as another way to get better, another way to develop my game. I was the first one to do it, I took that chance, and I'm really excited about it. All the trainings, the things the coaches will give me, I'm gonna learn. And it's the biggest thing for me, I'm gonna learn and be prepared," he said.

"So I expect everyone to come to the gym everyday and work their best out because these are high school elite players who chose this route to get to the NBA. There can't be no slack, there can't be no dayoffs. I expect everyone to come to the gym looking to get better everyday."

As much as the NBA G League select program is geared towards developing individual skills of players, Green also said that part of that process is building cohesiveness, especially since the team will be doing battle against older and more grizzled foes in the developmental league.

"We have to build chemistry because if we want to go on the court and play, we got to be on the same page," he said.

"I think we all can play a part in helping each other. It starts with practice and getting ready, play hard against each other cause that's the only way we're gonna get better, and take everything on what the coach Shaw is telling us, all the coaching staff is telling us and really use it to get stronger, better, and learn more about the game. We have all the tools now to learn and get better so we got to use it to our advantage."

That's why Green is upbeat on what the future holds for each member of the Elite team.

"I know we'll have a great year," he said. "I know we'll get better, I'll know we'll be more prepared for the NBA, and it's gonna be real exciting."
