    Icons one win away from Martin Cup qfinals

    INFORMATICS and Technological Institute of the Philippines came up with sizzling performances as they closed in on quarterfinal seats in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament.

    The Icons banked on the big games of Japs Bautista, Mark Doligon and Montuano in waylaying Perpetual Help, 82-50, recently at the Arellano University gym in Legarda, Manila.

    Bautista and Doligon had 14 apiece and Montuano added 13 as the Icons posted their fifth win in six matches in Group B.

    Informatics moved within a win of joining University of the East and Arellano University in the next stage.

    The Engineers, led by Jeffrey Yanes, Jemuel Namocatcat and Sean Paolo, stopped the Mapua Cardinals, 80-63, at the TIP gymnasium in Quiapo, Manila.

    Yanes had 20 points, while Paolo and Namocatcat added 13 and 12 for the Engineers, who finished Group A with a 5-3 slate.

    The Engineers are set to join early Group A quarterfinalists National University, San Beda and San Sebastian College-A.

    In the juniors division, Chiang Kai Shek won over the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs, 73-48, while Adamson whipped EAC-ICA, 75-55, and Trinity prevailed over FEU-FERN, 74-60.
