IGI Boy Sabasaje and Dahrrel Caranguian took charge in leading De Ocampo Memorial College to a come-from-behind win, 72-68, over Technological Institute of the Philippines on Thursday in the NCRUCLAA men’s basketball tournament at the PATTS College of Aeronautics gym in Paranaque City.
Sabasaje hit back-to-back triples, the last one with 45 seconds left to finally put the Cobras ahead, 68-65, before Caranguian hit two free throws with 10 ticks to play to grab a 70-68 lead in the game.
Sabasaje and Caranguian finished the game with 19 points each as the Cobras remained unbeaten after five games in Bracket A with a stunning comeback from 17 points down.
The Cobras stayed unscathed with two games to play in the eliminations despite the relatively poor field goal shooting of Caranguian (6-of-34) and Sabasaje (6-of-16).
Rizal Technological University and Olivarez College won over separate rivals to stay in second place with a 4-1 win-loss slate.
The RTU Blue Thunders overcame Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, 72-58, with Jonathan Boholano finishing with 17 points.
Vinnydale Begaso had 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Olivarez Sea Lions beat Philippine School of Business Administration, 77-70.
John Paul Manansala contributed 30 points as PATTS thumped Don Bosco Technical College, 124-68, to join PSBA in a tie for fourth place with 3-2.
The top four teams in the two brackets of the league will move to the quarterfinals.
