CHIANG Kai Shek College starts its title-retention bid against La Salle Greenhills even as former titlists San Beda and Hope Christian High School clash in the opener of the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship MEC Network Cup on Saturday at the SGS gym in Quezon City.
The inaugural champions Hope Christian cagers and 2013 winner Red Cubs face off at 9 a.m., while the CKSC-LSGH game is set at 12:30 p.m.
Bannered by former Batang Gilas mainstay Harvey Pagsanjan, Miguel Quimbao and Marvel Jimenez, Hope Christian is looking to figure prominently this time after a disappointing showing the last two seasons.
“We are hoping to do well this time,” said team manager Bernard Yang. “With Harvey, Miguel and Marvel forming our own “Big Three” we are hoping we can pull off a big surprise.”
NCAA champion Mapua opens it title bid against St. Stephen’s HS at 2:15 p.m., while Manila Patriotic School and Arellano University at 12:30 p.m. in the tournament bankrolled by Leoncio Chua’s MEC Network, Dioceldo Sy’s Blackwater, Rudy Yu’s Dickies Underwear,Terry Que’s Poly Gloss Automotive Polyurethane System, Jimi Lim’s Ironcon Builders, Cecilio Pedro’s Hapee Toothpaste, Eduard Tio’s Freego and Jimmy dela Cruz’s Ché Lu Bar & Grill and backed by Choi Garden, Hanabishi, World Balance, Davies Paints and Philippine Airlines.
