TAGUIG battles Marikina on its home floor in the main game of the opening day of the inaugural season of the National Basketball League (NBL) on Saturday at the Hagonoy Sports Complex.
The Madmax Taguig Generals face the Marikina Shoemakers at 6 p.m. following the first-ever NBL game between the Cam Sur Express and the Rizal Spartans at 4 p.m.
A simple opening ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. with NBL chairman Celso ‘Soy’ Mercado and commissioner Nandy Garcia formally unfurling the league for homegrown amateur players.
Recently, the league held an eligibility screening for the players of the 10 founding teams of the league to ensure that they are indeed homegrown talents.
“We want to make sure that all the players are definitely homegrown talents which is why we imposed strict guidelines before they can play,” said Garcia.
The NBL’s inaugural season will be carried live by Basketball TV and Solar Sports and will be aired through live stream at the NBL Philippines and Net 25 Facebook accounts.
