Here’s the touching story behind this newly renovated basketball court in Tacloban

Typhoon Yolanda was not only one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded; it's also one of the deadliest to ever hit the country. The toll it took on Tacloban, in particular, will be etched in everyone's memory for years to come.

It has been five years, yet the city and its residents still have ways to go in terms of recovery.

Take Barangay 82’s local basketball court, for example. A place for the youth to play and bond, the court has been left in a sad state ever since the storm hit. With a busted hoop barely hanging onto a shattered backboard, the residents feared that it might fall off and land on their heads at any given moment.

Having said that, there was absolutely no way they were going to abandon it.

“Yung basketball parang buhay ko na 'yan. Hindi kumpleto yung araw ko kapag hindi nakakahawak ng bola o nakakaapak sa court,” shares one of the kids who frequented the court during its heyday. “Doon kami nakakapag-bonding,” adds Romano Camot, the barangay's SK Chairman.

The lack of funding made it impossible for the locals to give the court a proper rehabilitation, but all of that changed when Rexona decided to step in. Last October, the brand brought a team of volunteers to bring new life to the local’s beloved playing area. With them came fresh paint, materials, and, most importantly, some new court hardware for proper basketball.

As part of the court's rehabilitation project, Rexona conducted a basketball clinic with the help of pro ballers Gary David and Dondon Hontiveros and introduced the young ballers to the benefits of using Rexona Ice Cool + Anti Stain deodorant. Watch this:
