Ateneo wrapped up its preseason campaign with a 66-55 victory over San Beda to bag the third-place trophy on Tuesday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Greg Slaughter finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Eagles, who ended their busy summer on a high note.

Ateneo finished off a tough nine-game, 13-day stretch that also saw the team capture the Fr. Martin Summer Cup. The Blue Eagles earlier went to the United States for their annual summer training.

“I’m just very happy that we went through the summer without any serious injuries,” said Ateneo coach Norman Black. “We just finished a stretch of nine games in 13 days so I’m happy that we will be able to relax. Now we are just trying to really prepare for the UAAP.”

With Slaughter dominating the paint, the Blue Eagles took a 49-38 lead entering the fourth quarter and never looked back.

Jake Pascual had 15 points, Ola Adeogun had 12 points and Baser Amer added 10 points as the Red Lions finished in fourth place after going undefeated in the elimination round.
