PASIG Chooks' road to redemption came to a screeching halt at the hands of world No. 4 NY Harlem, dealing it a 21-13 defeat in the quarterfinals of the Kaohsiung Challenger Sunday in Taiwan.
Fourth-ranked in the world, the Americans took a 5-0 lead before world No. 52 Joey King continued to pounce on the hapless Filipinos before taking a 14-5 advantage.
Nikola Pavlovic and Joshua Munzon tried to will Pasig back in the game, cutting the deficit down to just five, 18-13, but Kidani Brutus strung three straight points, none bigger than the game-winning deuce to end the match with a minute to spare.
King led NY Harlem with nine points as Brutus and Antoinne Morgano scored six.
Serbian forward Pavlovic paced Pasig Chooks with seven points as Munzon wound up with four.
More painfully, it ended Pasig Chooks’ quest to earn a berth in the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour Nanjing Masters next year.
The scores:
NY Harlem 21 - King 9, Brutus 6, Morgano 6, Seagers 0.
Pasig 13 - Pavlovic 7, Munzon 4, Rike 2, Ababou 0.
