GREG Slaughter has a new agent, and it looks like he will be in good hands.
Even though he is on sabbatical, Slaughter made a huge step in his basketball career by signing with BeoBasket, which was described by the former Barangay Ginebra cager as the biggest basketball agency in the world.
Slaughter’s career will now be taken care of by BeoBasket being one of the most respected agencies in the world. For starters, BeoBasket is the representative of NBA players such as Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Dario Saric of the Phoenix Suns, Cedi Osman of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Ivica Zubak of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Marko Guduric of the Memphis Grizzlies, among others.
BeoBasket, which has its first Filipino client in Slaughter, is being headed by Misko Raznatovic, a former player himself with more than 20 years of experience in being an agent. He is also the owner of the Mega Basket club in the Serbian league.
According to its official website, BeoBasket began its operations in 1995 and now represents a bulk of players in the Euroleague, EuroCup, and other European competitions. BeoBasket also said it was also part of some of the most important and highest deals in Europe.
In a report by Eurohoops.net, BeoBasket had representations from 43 players during the 2018-2019 season, the most by any basketball agency in Europe, with YouFirst Sports a far second with 23.
One of the most known deals BeoBasket made was when former Utah Jazz guard Deron Williams was signed to a lucrative deal in 2011 by Turkish club Besiktas, which was described by its coach Ergin Ataman as “the biggest signing in European basketball.”
According to the New York Times, Raznatovic said Williams’ contract was worth between $1 million and $5 million, including a car, house, and tax breaks. He was also provided with a security guard, drier, and personal assistant during his 10-month stay in the Turkish league.
Over the years, Raznatovic has also been in speaking his mind about issues that affect European players.
Last April, Raznatovic wrote on Twitter that Euroleague players should be paid 85 percent of their salaries during the COVID-19 pandemic, a contrast to the league’s recommendation to the clubs to play only 67 percent of the player contracts for the season.
Raznatovic also presented a revision in the agent-player contracts in 2019 to Fiba.
With his signing to BeoBasket, the sky is the limit for Slaughter.
