OLA Adeogun converted a putback but couldn’t complete the three-point play as San Beda settled for a 74-74 draw with De La Salle on Saturday in a fiercely played ‘Champions For A Cause’ charity game at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Adeogun scored off an Art Dela Cruz miss to tie the game at 74 but missed the bonus free throw that would have given San Beda the lead in the endgame.
That left the door open for De La Salle, which failed to capitalize as Jeron Teng and Norbert Torres couldn’t connect on the potential game-winning shots.
The game may have ended in a draw, but the real winners were the victims of super typhoon Yolanda as about P1.8 million will be given to the relief fund including P740,000 from the P500 pledged by both teams for every point scored in the exhibition match.
Almond Vosotros had a game-high 21 points for the Green Archers including 10 in the second that saw them take a 44-34 lead.
Ola Adeogun finished with 14 points, including the final four points for the Red Lions.
“I was very happy to see a lot of people come out and support the game,” said La Salle coach Juno Sauler. “We are just blessed to have this opportunity to help as well as play a champion team like San Beda.”
San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez said: “As part of the San Beda community, we are happy that we are part of his game. I do thank the alumni of both schools for coming out and supporting this game. It’s also an honor to play the UAAP champions.”
Baser Amer, who finished with 11 points, made one free throw but converted off a San Beda offensive rebound to give San Beda a 70-69 lead with 1:49 left in the fourth.
After splitting his two free throws to tie the game, Torres scored on a follow-up giving the Green Archers a 74-72 lead before Adeogun’s tying basket.
