GRACE Christian College-Mintex Industrial-Sportsplus was just on a league of its own, completing its run of perfection to capture the Fil-Chi Athletic Association Inc. (FCAAI) 45 and Above crown after sweeping St. Stephen’s High School-Genius Hardware, 63-55, in Game Two on Friday at SGS Gym in Quezon City.
Cloyd Ong and Alex Lao conspired in the Graceans’ telling 9-0 spurt in the last five minutes to turn a close 53-52 affair to a commanding 62-52 lead with 2:00 remaining en route to the championship presented by Tanduay Athletics and Smart Sports.
Allan Tan came off the bench and topscored for GCC with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists, as Ong shot a blazing 4-of-9 clip from deep for his 12 points in the clincher.
Lao also notched a double-double with his 10 points, 11 boards, and four blocks, while Finals MVP Albert Edsel Chua got 10 points and eight assists in another all-around performance for the Graceans.
Patterson Ngo led the way for SSHS with 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists and Iven Kho had 10 points and 17 boards as they settled for the runner-up finish of this tilt co-presented by PGFlex Linoleum, Cellboy, Triangle Tires, Jiang Nan, BYD Valenzuela, Powerhouse Tools, Hangry Pares, Genius Hardware, Lamtex, and Ongpin Tower.
Earlier, McRobert Dytiandu of Uno High School-CW Home Depot was hailed as the Season MVP as he was joined by the SSHS pair of Ngo and Kho, Lester Ong of Jubilee Christian Academy-Premium Feeds, and Adrianne Wong of St. Peter the Apostle School-Metro Asia in the Mythical First Team.
Four members of the champion GCC squad made up the Mythical Second Team, namely Chua, Lao, Tan, and Dexter Quan with Rodel Ng of Chiang Kai Shek College-Triangle Tires completing the quintet.
