GRACE Christian College put an end to Chang Kai Shek’s dominance in the FCAAF Aspirants Boys 14-and-under basketball tournament with a rousing 74-67 win in their winner-take-all championship match at the CKSC high school gym over the weekend.
Grace Christian led from start to finish and thwarted the repeated comebacks by Chang Kai Shek behind the efforts of Ren Cobie Tolentino and Kobe Bryson Chua, who led GCC with 27 and 21 points, respectively.
“It was a total team effort. The boys really wanted to win and finally give the school this championship,” said GCC head coach Steven Julian Go Tan, whose deputies included former PBA player Vic Pablo.
The win by GCC ended the nine-year reign of CKSC, which failed to repeat despite getting 25 points from Cyrus John Vibal.
GCC officials led by President Dr. James Tan, VP Directress for Student Affairs Judith Tan, Assistant Overall Chinese Supervisor Yeung Chun Yam, Sports Director Bonnie Tan, and Sports Coordinator Sherwin Ngo, were ecstatic with the championship feat they declared no classes in all levels in the school last Monday to celebrate the win.
