THE Gomez de Liaño brothers finally get their long-awaited chance to play side-by-side as they are set to suit up for the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards in the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President's Cup presented by TM.
Gilas Pilipinas stalwarts Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano will be reunited with their elder brother Joe for the Bong Cuevas-backed team, which will be one of the 12 teams seeing action in the first conference.
"Juan is probably one of our most talented guys. I expect him to score a lot," said Nueva Ecija coach Charles Tiu.
"Javi has been working on his game. He’s shooting straight and is one of our better shooters. And we also have Joe who is probably our most athletic player. He gives us a lot of athleticism and physicality."
The Gomez de Liano brothers, who are all still playing for University of the Philippines, are all considered as guest players in the first-ever professional 3x3 league.
Juan and Javi have earlier announced their decision to skip the next UAAP season, leaving Joe as the only GDL to fight for his spot in the Fighting Maroons roster for UAAP Season 83.
Their entry will be a big boost for the Rice Vanguards, who will be led by Philippines no. 9 Gab Banal.
“We have Gab Banal. Banal has played before and he is our veteran guy,” said Tiu of Banal, who previously played for Isabela City in international competitions.
Completing the Nueva Ecija squad are former Ateneo Blue Eagles Jai Reyes and Tonino Gonzaga.
