GLOBALPORT star Terrence Romeo and Gilas coach Tab Baldwin have been invited as special guests when the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Cup holds its opening ceremony on December 13 at the San Beda College gym.
PSSBC chairman Jimmy dela Cruz said the opening ceremony will be short and simple but he expects the presence of Romeo and Baldwin to be very significant especially for the players.
“Romeo is one of the rising stars in the PBA and his presence in the opening ceremony will certainly be an inspiration to all players,” said Dela Cruz. “I’m certain Romeo can motivate these high school players to play at the highest level and instill in them the importance of patience and discipline.”
The exciting guard has proven his worth not only in the PBA but also in the international arena when he helped the Baldwin-mentored Gilas Pilipinas finish runner-up in the FIBA Asia Championship in Changsha, China last September.
Baldwin is also expected to give his own words of encouragement to coaches and players in the event sponsored by Rain or Shine, Freego, Blackwater Sports, MEC Networks, Dickies Underwear, Ironcon Builders and Hapee Toothpaste.
“Our invitation to Baldwin is our manifestation of support to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas,” added Rain or Shine owner Terry Que.
While the opening ceremony is scheduled on December 13, the tournament officially starts on December 12 also at the San Beda College gym, with the games shown on AksyonTV.
